Jack White - Love Interruption
First single off his upcoming solo album, Blunderbuss. A beautiful, mellow groove with lovely harmonizing and some fun clarinet hiding in the background.
All of which just makes these lyrics all the more amazing. I am destroyed, everyone. I cannot contain myself. Please, Jack White, press all my buttons more, why don’t you.
I want love to roll me over slowly
stick a knife inside me and twist it all around
i want love to grab my fingers gently
slam them in a doorway, put my face into the ground
I want love to murder my own mother and
take her off to somewhere, like hell or up above
And I want love to change my friends to enemies,
change my friends to enemies and show me how it’s all my fault. No, I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me
I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me
Yeah I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me
anymore.I want love to walk right up and bite me
grab a hold of me and fight me, leave me dying on the ground
And I want love to split my mouth right open and
cover up my ears and never let me hear a sound
I want love to forget that you offended me,
or how you had defended me when everybody taught me down
Yeah and I want love to change my friends to enemies
change my friends to enemies and show me how it’s all my fault. No, I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me
I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt, or interrupt me
Yeah, I won’t let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me
anymore.

9 years ago today Joe Strummer passed away and the world lost someone truly amazing and inspirational. May you rest in peace Saint Joe Strummer.
“raise a toast to Saint Joe Strummer/I think he might’ve been our only decent teacher.”
I’ve been waiting to see someone use that Hold Steady line all day.
<3 You’re missed, Mr. Strummer. It’s odd to think that it was nine years ago that I got my copy of London Calling. Life-changing times, those were.
The Clash was my first real introduction to all of rock music, back in 6th grade when I discovered my dad’s cassettes from his college days. I listened to Sandinista! and London Calling nonstop for the majority of middle school, and it was through The Clash that I then came to love bands like Led Zeppelin, Blondie, and Green Day. The Clash taught me so much about music, and political involvement actually. My memories of The Clash are forever intertwined with memories of my childhood, and my father.
Joe Strummer, you and your band meant, and mean, the world to me. Thank you.

AV Club Holiday Undercover 2011- The Mountain Goats cover “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” [#]
I normally hate this song, but John Darnielle makes me not.
Mainly for “”Through the years we all will be together (In the grave. That’s where we’ll actually be together is in the grave.)”

I’m such a sucker for this kind of thing, where old school technology plays music. IT JUST NEVER STOPS BEING AWESOME.

The Black Keys - Little Black Submarines
This is off their new album, El Camino. It was brilliant from the first note, but I can decisively say that halfway into this song, when it goes from soulfully acoustic to gritty and raucous… that’s when I fell in love with the album. The moment the tone shifted, I fell HARD.
And then that chorus. Hot damn.
Elliott Smith, ‘Misery Let Me Down’
Another unreleased tune from the late, great Elliott Smith has surfaced after college radio station WMUC found a live session that was hidden in the vaults for over a decade. Dating back to the middle of 1997 (between the release of Either/Or and XO), the song was a warmup for Smith’s 10-song set, which explains why he cuts it short abruptly just under two minutes. Even in its off-the-cuff, truncated form, this hushed gem does the legacy of my favorite musician plenty of justice.

Childish Gambino - Outside
I am so in love with this song that I can barely get through the whole album — I keep jumping back to the beginning to listen to it again. Donald Glover is on his game, and the chorus is beautiful. He utilizes the choir so well; their harmonies are stunning. And the moment when the beat drops during the chorus? Fucking perfection.
Plus, bonus live version where Donald makes the tambourine badass and Alison Brie joins the choir!
